You can view the application deadline under our Admission page. The admissions page also has important information including the admission requirements and application deadlines.

Instructions on how to submit your graduate application can be found here: https://gs.mcmaster.ca/how-to-apply/

Applicants are required to provide two (2) academic references. The references should be able to speak to your academic strengths. At least one of your references must come from an academic source. If more than five years have elapsed since you last registered in a university course, we will accept a professional reference. A professional reference must be able to comment on your academic abilities.

There are three (3) academic terms:

  • Winter Term (January – April)
  • Spring/Summer Term (May – August)
  • Fall Term (September – December)

For thesis-based students, classes start in the second week of the term. For course-based students, classes start in the first week of the term.

The PhD program requires applicants to submit two (2) writing samples. Examples can include:

  • MSc thesis
  • Scholarly Paper
  • Research Project
  • Abstract

The writing sample primarily serves as an evidential sample. The admission committee reviews the writing samples submitted to determine the applicant’s writing skills.

No, the transcript you upload in the application portal does not have to be official. We encourage applicants to submit an unofficial copy of transcripts in the application portal as it allows our Admissions Committee to start accessing your eligibility while we wait for your official transcripts to arrive in the program office.

The program determines your eligibility by looking at the last 30 units of your upper level health relevant courses.

If you are applying to the PhD Dual degree (RS PhD/PT MSc), applicants need to meet the admission requirements of both the RS and PT program. Please carefully review the admissions requirements from the Physiotherapy program listed on their website.

While applicants are not required to find a supervisor before applying, it is highly encouraged that you connect with potential supervisors prior to applying to the program. The complete list of Rehabilitation Science faculty members can be found on our website.

If you are unable to secure a supervisor, please list three proposed supervisors that you are interested in working with. We expect that you reach out to any proposed supervisors that you list in your application.

You can contact potential supervisors via email. Please view their contact bio for more contact information.
